I too have a garden filled with, deliberately left to do their thing, oxeye daisies - I love there feral faces!
Ooh Vanessa, I am just about to begin watching the first season of Rivals! I just know this is going to transport me straight back to the nostalgia and heartache of my teenage years but so be it… How we loved JC’s books at that age!!
I hope you and your back are in recovery mode - much love xx
Oh I hope you’ll love it Susie - Jilly filled many happy hours of my time back in the 80s and 90s. Pure escapism!
The daisies fill me with joy - and it won’t be long before the poppies bloom too. The birds and bees are happy and frankly I don’t much care what anyone else thinks.
Hope the weekend finds you happily in pursuit of something pleasurable. Xx
Such lovely writing with a bit of everything to think about. I need to go through your posts to see if you’ve shared a photo of your meadow garden. I’ve always loved a purposeful path through a riot of wildflowers and tall grass. I live in Maine and it was a glorious 62° F (~17° C) when we got up this morning so it’s already shaping up to be a great weekend!
Thanks Kelly, there aren’t many photos as this is the first year it’s really begun to take shape (ish) - they take quite a while to establish themselves. Happy you have a glorious day, it’s 13.5 degrees here and currently pouring with rain. I’m hiding in the poly tunnel 😂
So lovely Vanessa, the cermics are utterly stunning, what creativity! And yes, I loved The Women,.as well as The Nightingale and I'm actually listening to Wild by her at the moment, what a coincidence!
I breathed a sigh reading your words Vanessa and seeing the lovely photo of the house. It is idyllic in a way that I would like to bury myself in. I loved this in particular “either I simply haven’t quite found my own style yet, or the thrill of regularly trying something new will never leave me.” I’m definitely with you there - and I think I’m the second!! I need to be doing new things. I adore foxgloves, heard a cuckoo walking down along the river but have yet to see a hedgehog. Alas, if I do, it would probably be a sick hedgehog. Enjoy your weekend 💛
Thanks Emily, I think novelty is something that some of us a definitely fuelled by - I sort of love and hate that about myself in equal measure!
I did feel worried about the little hedgehog, it was early evening and surprised me to see it but I thought better to leave alone and when I checked the next morning there was no sign of it so 🤞🏻Hope you have a lovely weekend. Xx
Thanks for the letter. I hope the pottery works out for you. 🤞🏻 And I hope you get relief from the pain more often. And thanks for that YouTube video link. The hedgehog letter rack made me laugh. And it was such a lovely video. Take care.
Lovely post…..and lucky you having foxgloves growing like weeds everywhere! I’m worried for that young hedgehog out in daylight, usually a sign something is not quite right…
Lovely post thanks for the little peek into your life, strangely I have oxeye daisies everywhere this year. None last year, but I do like them fortunately. Love the roses around your letter boxI keep trying to grow them here (Cheshire) but alas it’s a windy spot both the front & back. Also cold here I think I lost a cucumber plant today in the greenhouse it’s looking rather sick and yesterday the wind or hail snapped 2 of my courgettes that I was trying to harden off.
This weather is playing havoc with all the young plants! Shame you’re not closer as I have more cucumber than we could possibly need. I love roses and aspire to have them all over the garden - I will clearly spend my dotage dead heading!
We too were lucky enough to hear the cuckoo recently on a walk in Uphill by the bird hides. It was so loud it must have been in the tree right next to us! Having only heard it once or twice before and very faintly it made my day…. Little things !
I love the Ox eye daisies by the way. Hope your back improves soon Xx
It’s disproportionately pleasing isn’t it! I’ve never seen one but would love to. And I adore the Oxeye daisies and all the other weeds/wildflowers slowly appearing. x
What a treat to read this letter whilst lying on the spare bed as the sun comes through the window making it really quite hot in here! Sorry your back has been so sore but you’ve managed to pack in a lot over the past two weeks!
I love the photo of the roses around the post box 💕
Wishing you a happy weekend and a happy anniversary 💕💕 xx
PS I’m disproportionately excited about the new season of Rivals 🤣😜
Do hope your back is feeling a bit better now there’s nothing worse than having a bad back and looking at all the things you want to do and not being able to do them because you are in so much pain sending love to you xxxx

Someone else recommended The Nightingale this week too - I will add it to my list. Always good to listen while weeding! x

Thanks Anna, I’m bracing myself to go and open the kiln shortly! Glad you enjoyed the little film - I bet it’s made a lot of people smile! x

Yes, I felt a bit worried but it was 6pm and when I checked in the morning there was no sign of it so I’m hopeful all is well 🤞🏻

Loved the Japanese pottery.

So sorry about your back 🥺 These things are so slow to improve, too! Looking forward to seeing what the kiln gods have conjured up for you 🙏🏼
Yes - far too slow! I can put up with it for a couple of days but 😬 I shouldn’t complain, I know there are many worse things. Xx

Oh lying in the warmth of the sun is just blissful isn’t it! Hope you’ll have a happy weekend too xxx
Made me feel better- we too have the fire on as I was shivering……
It was definitely much warmer than this 28 years ago! So much for global warming 😂
Love the postbox!!!
