Love your updates and would love to arrange a creative weekend with you... perhaps in the pottery?! I sadly, do not prioritise my creativity... I often have some great ideas and really need to write them down as when it comes to making the time to do something I can never think what I want to do! 😂now final assignment submission date looms I am soon to have a bit more free time! 🤞☺️
You have such a full life Kate, I can see how hard it is to squeeze in creative time. But, you could always keep a tiny little sketch book in your handbag for boring meetings! Xx
I'm sitting in bed catching up on your writings & musings and really enjoying myself. Great quote - I might add it to my wall too! I do remember reading somewhere about how creating in community with people is totally different to creating alone. I do miss that...
I think that’s why I so love a workshop, and while I don’t aspire to host them again in the same way I do wonder about a space for people to create together in - not least for my own benefit! Hope you’re okay? Xx
Ugh, that sounds like a rough December Vanessa! 💛 As for the snoring, I can relate: my partner is also an accomplished snorer 😅 I second the recommendations of wax ear plugs (I use Ohropax but don’t know if you can get them in the UK) and making sure I fall asleep before he does. A separate room sounds great too! xx
Commiserations on your snorer! 😂 Earplugs will hopefully arrive today and my public mention of the snoring even prompted some investigations of his own astonishingly. Xx
Ah. All is clear now as to whose hip was replaced! Do wish Mr D well from me
But my goodness - what a relentless misery of a December.... I can totally empathise. Also couldn't agree more about wretched New Year's Eve reviews and resolutions! I found Snapdragon Life's recent YouTube video about calling elements into to one's life at each new moon absolutely wonderful. Of course, one still has to carve out time and focus to 'do the work' 😂
On your creativity, no one knows better than I what a talent and wellspring you are! We saved each other once 💖 Always happy to collaborate with you in any helpful way xxx
And yes, we have a Coughing Room to which one of us retires when necessary!😉
Love the idea of a ‘coughing room’, I think I shall name ours the ‘snore chamber’ 😂 I saw Jane’s video but haven’t watched it yet so will do this evening, I’m for ever staring out at the moon which seems to have ever greater importance to me somehow 🤔
Our collaboration was indeed a life saver and I will never forget your kindness in inviting me to create it with you 🙏🏻🥰xx
Good grief that really was a dull December.. I hope you recovered sufficiently to enjoy at least a little festive merriment?
I gave up with New Year promises and resolutions years ago, I knew the result would be similar to all my school reports, “Susie is very capable but needs to concentrate on the work in front of her rather than dreaming!” Resolutions equal foregone conclusion in other words...
I agree with Lynn about the wax ear plugs but nothing works better than separate rooms.. just saying! X
What a ghastly time you have had over Christmas. Very sorry to hear about it - on a practical point, do you have a spare room into which you could temporarily relocate while the snorer's hip recovers?
And yes to creativity bursting out in other ways if the muse is not welcomed.
Ach, my family are an excellent bunch so we’ve muddled through pretty well. And yes, now everyone has gone home I’ve a spare room I can relocate to - but still need earplugs 😂 xx
What a lovely post, Vanessa, and a particularly generous shout-out. So happy if the chat sparked a refreshed focus on you and your creative practice. Finding and celebrating the things that bring you joy. A brilliant aiming point.
I too had a session with Barrie - more a conversation, but a relaxed conversation that was wide-ranging, and I too came away feeling encouraged and uplifted.
I've found Boots own brand of wax earplugs to be reasonably effective as the mould to the shape of your ear. Good luck!
I did an online course with Louise M Tucker on the book, the Artist’s Way and it really helped me to understand the book and stop fiddling about to use my time wisely.

Hahaha, nothing like shaming someone publicly to affect change 😂

I’m happy to say that there has been plenty of merriment along the way, there were 16 of us so only a small minority in the sick bay!
I fear our school reports were rather similar, and while I know the road to hell is paved with good intentions etc it’s the best I’ve got 😂 xx

It certainly did, I’ve had two wonderful afternoons in the studio and am enjoying hatching many ideas! Thank you. Xx
That’s so exciting to hear. Creativity Rocks! Bx

To uplift and encourage without any agenda is so generous isn’t it? Thanks for the earplugs recommendation - I’ll give them a go 🤞🏻xx
Very generous indeed - the gift of time is priceless.

An excellent suggestion for I am a master of ‘fiddling about’. Thank you
